GRAZ AIRPORT (THALERHOF) - HIGHLIGHTS 2003

Graz Airport is about 10km south of Styria’s capital situated and has been built as a small airfield in 1913. The development to an important airport began in 1966 when the first scheduled service to the European destination Frankfurt was offered by Austrian Airlines. In 2004 the Graz Airport was able to handle more than 900.000 passengers.
In 2002 the airport built its new tower on the site between the terminal and the parking areas. In March 2005 the new futuristic terminal building was opened (see picture). With 23 check-in counters and 14 gates the airport is able to handle 1.5 million passengers per year.
Styrian Spirit opened its home base in Graz
in March 2003 and launched new flights to different cities in Europe. Unfortunately the airline had to ground its fleet exactly three years later due to financial problems. Nowadays the Austrian Airlines Group, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Intersky and Welcome Air are the most important airlines at Graz Airport. During the summer season there are many additional charter flights mainly to the classic holiday destinations.
